The Method for 1-on-1 Coaching

For 6-12 months

01

Firefighter Physical Assessment

We assess your current level of strength, stamina, and endurance so we know your starting point, your gaps and what to build first. You get clear benchmarks to measure against and track your progress.

02

Structured Physical Regimen

A hyper-customized training plan built around your goals, your schedule and the gear/equipment you actually have. As you change, the program changes with you.

03

Fueling for shift work, not restricting

Your nutrition is built around 24s, 48s, and 96s, not a meal plan written for someone with a normal Monday-to-Friday schedule. Under-fueling on shift is one of the biggest reasons firefighters burn out, gain weight, or crash mid-tour.

04

The mindset that carries past the workout

Firefighting puts you in situations most people never face, and life outside the job doesn't pause for it. How you handle the hardest parts of this career and your own life is a skill you can learn. We train on it, so it lasts far beyond a tough workout.

05

Protecting your body so the job doesn't retire you early

Most firefighter injuries come from poor movement patterns and neglected mobility, not lack of effort. Durability is built into the program, so you're still moving well at 50.

06

Making it stick, so you don't fall back into “just surviving the shift”

Getting in shape for one physical or one recruitment cycle and then falling off is the same trap as yo-yo dieting. We build toward a standard you maintain for the rest of your career, not a peak you hit once and lose.

If you're still wondering if this is for you…

It's for you if:

  • You want to get stronger, leaner and healthier, on and off the job
  • You're working toward the CPAT, the academy, or your first firefighter job
  • You're chasing the next level: Smoke Diver, special teams, promotion
  • You've let your health slide and you're ready to take it back
  • You want the habits and mindset to last a full career

It's not for you if:

  • You make excuses instead of taking accountability
  • You already know it all and won't take feedback
  • You expect someone else to do the work for you
  • You aren't willing to commit to the process
  • You're not ready to invest your time, effort and money

Trained by the job, for the job

I'm Julian Serrano, an active, on-duty firefighter and the founder of Prepared to Fight Fire. I've spent 12 years on the job, including time as an instructor, and I'm a Florida Smoke Diver and a graduate of FLAMES and One Bad Tour.

I started Prepared to Fight Fire because I've lived both sides of this. I was overweight, I failed fire school the first time, and I had to rebuild myself from the ground up before I ever got hired. That failure pushed me to get better and go after goals most people would call extraordinary.

Now I get to help other firefighters do the same. I've coached thousands of firefighters around the world as they chase their own goals, transform, and become the firefighter they set out to be.

If you're serious about doing this job well, and doing it for a long time, let's get to work.

Your questions, answered

"I'm not a firefighter yet. Is this still for me?"

Yes. A lot of what we do is built specifically for candidates getting ready for the academy, the CPAT and the hiring process.

"I work 24s and my schedule is unpredictable. Will this work?"

That's exactly what it's built around. The programming adjusts to your shift pattern instead of asking your shift pattern to adjust to it.

"How is this different from a normal gym program?"

Everything is built around the real physical demands of the job. Not aesthetics, not a generic transformation template.

"What if I'm already in decent shape?"

Then we aim higher. This is about staying job-ready and sharp for the length of your career, including advanced goals like Smoke Diver.

"What's the difference between the app and 1:1 coaching?"

The app gives you structured programming and macro tracking to run yourself. 1:1 adds a fully personalized plan, direct access to Julian and the coaches, and a community of firefighters on the same path.

Prepared to Fight Fire

The call is coming. Be ready for it.

The test date, the academy, the next bad shift. They're coming whether you're prepared or not.
